FAQ' S

Since 2009, Lark Engineering has provided technical clarity to the world’s most complex pelleting operations. Find answers to common questions regarding metallurgy, die maintenance, and production optimization.

Products Questions

Our in-house German CNC gun drilling facility can produce dies with hole sizes ranging from 0.8mm to 12mm. Custom hole sizes outside this range can be discussed on a case-by-case basis.
Yes. Lark manufactures dies for all well-known brands of pellet mills. We can select material of die from high chrome steel to wear resistant steels to suit your requirement. Similarly, hole size, effective working length, relief pattern etc. can be tailored to the material to be pelleted.

Technical Questions

Gun-drilled dies offer several advantages: • Mirror finish holes result in quick start and low power consumption • Longer working lengths of holes can be used • More retention time in die promotes gelatinization and reduces bacterial load • Better finish of product with negligible change in pellet size from start to end of die • Longer die life reduces downtime and maintenance cost • Immediate startup with full production from moment of installation
To get an accurate quote for a die, we need the following specifications: • Pellet mill make and model number • ID (Inside Diameter), OD (Outside Diameter) • Overall width (O) and Pad width (W) • Fitting size (F) and Total thickness (T) • Pellet diameter (d), Effective length (E), Relief (R) • Inlet angle (Ø) and Inlet diameter (D) • Relief type and Relief diameter (D1) • Number of rows and holes per row You can use our online Specification Form or download the PDF specification form from our Download page.
We use a wide range of chrome steel alloys including chromium, vanadium, carbon, nickel and manganese as key contents to suit your individual requirements. Both Hi-Chrome and Alloy steel options are available. All dies are vacuum hardened to give extremely hard molecular structure with minimum ovality for longer life.

General Questions

All we can assure is that our dies will give you at least at par or greater tonnage with much better product quality at equal or lesser cost per ton than any other brand of dies. We are ready to put our dies on self-test — contact us to discuss a trial arrangement.
Lead times depend on the product and specifications. Standard sizes may be available from stock or with short lead times. Custom dies typically take 2–4 weeks from confirmation of order. Please contact us with your requirements for a specific delivery estimate.
